Hello, I'm Michelle!
Thank you for visiting my company website, which I am designing myself and updating, as time permits, while I start my new marketing and communications consulting business. My main clientele are large not-for-profit, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and US Government agencies which are focused on poverty reduction, inclusion and diversity, and social change that is economically and otherwise sustainable. I help my clients find investors, partners, and their own client base. I tell their story to others, aiming for a call to action from the target audience.
First thing to know about me is that my understanding of exclusion/inclusion is profound and I try to “walk the talk” professionally and personally. I am a minority, female, small business owner. With a multicultural upbringing on two continents, I have an innate ability to see things from many perspectives. I grew up with war, exclusion, and racism on both sides of my family. As a bridge-builder and knowledge-broker, I want to take that experience and transform grief into positive social and systemic change, and maybe, if I'm lucky, into peace. Through the privilege of education and experience, and with the support of my Ancestors, I've been doing that for 20+ years now, with an almost singular focus on economic growth and self-determination as the foundation for lasting peace. I have learned that whether you are Appalachian or African, American Indian or Asian, the issues are remarkably similar, and so perhaps are their solutions.
I started my career as a US Peace Corps Small Business Development Volunteer, in Togo, West Africa (1995-1998). I helped farmers enter the formal market economy and taught them business and marketing skills when it was laughable (Yes, people laughed in my face. "Farmers aren't entrepreneurs [little girl]!" government leaders cackled, when I asked for their support.). I adapted small business development training materials to the reality of small family farming, materials which - I am told - are still used by Peace Corps today, two decades later. I served urban and rural communities, small business, women, and youth. To help further my goals, I applied and was awarded the highly competitive Career Development Grant (2016-2017), by the American Association of University Women. And until March 2020, I've been and try to maintain: AAUW Chapter Board Member and AAUW Lobby Corps volunteer, going on US Capitol Hill to persuade my US Congressional members to support and vote for gender equality, equity, equanimity.
Thanks again, and please check back later, as I add new elements to this site.
Sincerely,
Michelle F. Muldoon
